About

This document explains how to close a user session that prevents you from accessing or modifying a file when another admin has it open on their system.

!! IMPORTANT !!

Always ask the other Admin in your team if you can close their session before doing this!
Otherwise, they might lose any unsaved work!

Sign in to the Server:

  1. Log in to the Active Directory server using an administrator account.
  2. Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to manage user sessions.

Open Task Manager:

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button (flag icon) at the bottom-left of the screen.
  2. Select Task Manager from the list.

Identify the Active User Session:

  1. In Task Manager, click on the Users tab.

  2. Locate the user whose session you want to close.

  3. Check their status:

  1. Confirm the action if prompted.

  2. The user will be logged off, and any locked files should now be accessible.

Verify the Session is Closed:

  1. Refresh the Users tab in Task Manager.
  2. Ensure the user’s session is no longer listed.

And you are done! 😄
