Github - Verify and update github primary email

About

This guide helps you get your GitHub account ready for GitHub SSO (single sign-on, where you log in with your Office 365 account). To do that, you check that your primary email address in GitHub is your work email, and that GitHub has verified it.

Verified means you have proven that the email address is yours, by clicking a link in an email that GitHub sent to it. Your primary email is the address GitHub treats as your main one.

Steps

1. Sign in to GitHub
Open this page in your browser: https://github.com/settings/emails
If GitHub asks you to sign in, log in with your GitHub account first. After you sign in, you will land on the Emails page.

2. Check your emails
The page shows a list of all the email addresses connected to your account. Next to each address you may see a label, for example Primary or Verified.

3. Add your work email (only if it is not in the list)
If your work email address is missing:

  1. In the Add email address box, type your work email.
  2. Click Add.

4. Verify your work email (only if it is not verified yet)
If it says Unverified next to your work email:

  1. Click Resend verification email.
  2. Open your work inbox and look for an email from GitHub.
  3. Click the link in the email.
  4. Go back to the Emails page and refresh it. It should now say Verified.

5. Make it your primary email
Find the Primary email address setting at the top of the page. Open the dropdown list and choose your work email. Click Save. Only verified emails can be chosen.

6. Sign the page
To show that you have done all of the steps, leave a Like on the wiki page where you found this guide. This works as your signature.

And you are done. 😄
